Child with Misarticulation

Abstract – Child not pronouncing sounds correctly/ speech not clear

When Ruchi, a four-year-old child, started fussing over social interaction, her surprised mother found out that she was being bullied for her mispronunciations. She realized that it was time to see a speech pathologist. Using the minimal pair approach in therapy with the right reinforcement schedule, her speech was corrected. In two months, Ruchi learned to pronounce all her words correctly and is now back to being her usual happy self.

Takeaway Note

Speech Therapy is best suggested if speech is not clear to strangers by three years of age. As always, early intervention reduces the time and effort spent on therapy.
